yannis giovanos

Yannis Giovanos was born in Greece but grew up in Egypt where he started playing guitar at age 16. While studying Mathematics at university, he joined an improvisational band, playing regular gigs in bars and traveling to the Sinai Peninsula where he was deeply influenced by local culture and traditional instruments and percussion.

His winning remix of Afroganic's Nadeya was described as "by far the best remix I've heard so far," by Dj Lance Jordan. "The sparse break beat and simple smooth bass line give it about as much room as you could ask for. Whoever did this mix has a lot of talent!"

Yannis humbly describes himself as an "amateur". But with a professional background in sound design, a concept album (Shabaka) released in 2000, and commercial releases on the Greek Octoberon record label, we can't help but disagree.

His lifelong fascination with computers eventually gave him the perfect tools to blend and experiment with his influences. He speaks three languages and is an avid photographer, a hopeless romantic, a volunteer graphic designer and takes recycling very seriously!

Mentor Records is delighted to present the Yannis Giovanos winning remix of Afroganic’s Nadeya:
